Enrichment

Enrichment is any activity that encourages the use of an animal鈥檚 natural instincts and adds variety to their environment. As you can imagine, these activities are an important part of keeping our dogs in the shelter mentally and physically stimulated. You might not realize it, but you probably provide enrichment to your pets at home every day!

Examples of enrichment can include puzzle or chew toys, special treats, exposure to different scents, and more! Enrichment is only limited by your imagination and the preferences of your pet.聽

What's In A Breed?

“What breed are they?” is a question we often hear, but the answer is usually not so simple.

If you’ve visited or adopted from our shelters, you may have noticed we do not include breeds on our dogs’ paperwork. The reason for this is we want to encourage our potential adopters to get to know the animal’s individual personality. It is also usually very difficult to accurately pinpoint the breed makeup of many mixed-breed dogs without a DNA test.

Want to try your hand at guessing the results of DNA tests performed on some of the pups in our 正澳门六合彩开奖结果 family? The results may surprise you! Take a look at the dogs below, then hover over their photos for the results.

We believe that the availability of more truly聽pet-friendly apartments聽will go a long way in keeping pets with their family, so we created the聽Pet Apartment Registry. Some properties聽welcome all dogs, regardless of size or breed, while some have no breed restrictions, but have weight restrictions.

Seasonal Resources

The time to prepare your pets for hurricane season is now.

It is vital that you have a plan for your pet in the wake of an approaching storm. Get ready with our Hurricane Season To-Do List and Pet Hurricane Preparedness Video!

Holidays that involve fireworks can be a stressful time for our furry family members. Here are some tips to help make your pet more comfortable:

  1. Do not bring your pet along to neighborhood fireworks. The safest place for them is at home!
  2. Prepare a safe 鈥渄en鈥 in your home for your pet. Spaces like underneath a bed or an open closet work perfectly.
  3. Feed and walk your pet before dusk.
  4. Keep a chew toy or treat on hand as a distraction from flashes and scary sounds. You can also turn on the TV or play calming music to help muffle the noise.
  5. Make sure your pet is tagged and their microchip information is up to date. If you need to update information on your pet鈥檚 microchip,
  6. Try not to reward your pet鈥檚 anxiety with extra attention. It may be hard, but it鈥檚 better to practice distraction techniques.

Protect your pup during the Holidays and make sure any ingredients they ingest are dog safe and in moderation!

Adding a Dog to Your Family

Once you decide to add a new furry family member to your home, you need to be prepared to introduce them to their new environment. As excited as you may be to make them feel at home, remember that your new pet is probably a bit nervous and scared. The more patient and prepared you are, the better it will be for both you and your dog!
